Lessons learned at the Rosa Spier Huis, a home for elderly artists in Laren.

The Rosa Spier Huis is like a big, old box full of great, ‘living’ archives, that each tell a different story. Why wait until the archives have become dusty, if you can learn from them now they’re still here? I tried to understand what it is like to become old, confused and less active as an artist. The most important lesson I learned was that to create, we need a little craziness. Luckily that only gets better with age.

Put something in
Draw a crazy picture,
Write a nutty poem,
Sing a mumble-gumble song,
Whistle through your comb.
Do a loony-goony dance
‘Cross the kitchen floor,
Put something silly in the world
That ain’t been there before.
